Throughout the whole international community, robot technology has become a research focus in many fields.

In military, with the battle field situation changing rapidly, unknown environment reconnaissance and real-time information collection tasks are urgently need to be unmanned; in police, the anti-terrorism situation becomes severe, which requires to develop multi-function moving robot for the police; in civilian, as border inspection, security, search and rescue tasks are arduous, the introduction of unmanned equipment featuring high efficiency is also greatly demanded.

As traditional reconnaissance equipment is heavy and bulky, it cannot be quickly transferred and deployed. Therefore, it is difficult to act on the target environment in the first place. In response to the above problem, JARI has developed two types of multi-function reconnaissance robots, JARI-15 Portable Reconnaissance Robot and JARI-60 Small Caterpillar Multi-function Robot, for the reconnaissance in dangerous blind areas such as caves, enemy combat fortifications, and terrorist hiding environment.

Featuring a weight of 13kg, small size and flexible movement (size 500mm*397mm*165mm displayed on the screen), JARI-15 can be carried and transferred by a single person, and quickly deployed in the target scene within 1 minute. The robot adopts a modular design and consists of a flip arm moving platform, a power supply system, a wireless communication system and a control system.

The structure of track plus flip arm ensures that the robot can run stably under various road conditions; the quick switch structure can meet the fast replacement requirements of reconnaissance, exploder-clearing, firefighting, eviction and other loads, so as to realize function expansion; the control system can remotely control the robot via using the wireless mode, with a visual control distance no less than 500m; and the removable battery compartment design can effectively improve the robots operating life.

The maximum driving speed of the robot is 1.5m/s, and it can run stably in unstructured environments such as grass and depression; it can climb over barriers of 160mm and deep trench spanning of 200mm with the use of flip arm; and it features expanded reachability thanks to its capability of climbing slopes and platforms of 25 degrees.

With a self-weight of 60kg, JARI-60 has a larger output power and an excellent heavy load task execution capability (60kg robot lens, body size: 680mm*500mm*160mm).

The maximum driving speed of the robot is 3m/s, and it can run stably in unstructured environments such as grass and depression; it can climb over barriers of 250mm and deep trench spanning 300mm with the use of flip arm; climb slopes and platforms of 30 degrees; conduct narrow area inspection such as vehicle bottom via using mechanical arm (look for online videos); and accomplish the catch/transfer of objects up to 5kg.
