With higher requirements for environment protection the impact of building vibration caused by urban rail transit and industrial production on the residents comfort is increasingly attracting public concern, and there have been higher requirements for noise and vibration control technologies on metro systems and buildings.

In the metro field, GERB is bold in making innovations and has pioneered in the design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of steel spring floating slab technology, providing a newer and more perfect solution for the implementation of the special noise and vibration control method. After the operation of the metro, neighboring residents will not feel the vibration and noise as the trains pass by.
The Shanghai Symphony Concert Hall is only 7 meters away from the running Metro Line 10 , it includes one1200-seat and one 400-seat music hall . In order to eliminate the vibration and noise caused by metro, the designer boldly introduced the floating design with spring elements installed at the bottom of both concert halls. The vibration generated by the metro can be isolated efficiently by the spring elements to ensure the best acoustic performance. The support of these impressive spring elements makes the concert hall the first full-floating building in China.
(Director Zhou) This technology is very advanced in Europe and Japan, but there was no real floating building in China. In the past, music agencies in Beijing and Shanghai tried similar projects. but they only adopted partial floating, such as the vibration isolation under the piano room. However, it is actually not full-floating, so I was a little bit worried about it. After thorough examination, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra adopted the spring vibration control solution provided by GERB.
(Dr. Yin) Shanghai Symphony Concert Hall adopted a kind of special springs, which can isolate both vibration and noise with acoustic requirements, we finally selected such technology for this project.
A large spring can withstand about 13 tons force, while the smaller one can withstand 3 tons. They will be arranged appropriately to deal with the different loads, and finally support the entire concert hall with the total weight of 26,000 tons. 300 spring elements are installed in place like building blocks. After the completion of building construction, some specific engineers will do the commissioning work of the spring elements, spring will stretch slowly at an invisible speed and finally support the entire building.
(BUENTE) As you know, in the building above the spring elements, we are talking about the weight of 26,000 tons over the spring elements. Even 100, 200 or 300 spectators individually weighing up to 100kg will cause no damage to the spring elements. The load capacity of the spring elements themselves far exceeds the range of vibration to be caused by the audience. So whether they are walking or jumping, there will be absolutely no difference.
As the longest bridge in the world, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge with the total length of 55km is also a world-famous national super project. How to reduce the structural resonance of the bridge under the typhoons is an urgent problem to be solved by the engineers.
(Dr. Yin) In order to control the vibration of the bridge under wind excitation, we adopted tuned mass damper for the bridge. In simple terms, it is a reverse vibration absorber, which always vibrates in the opposite direction with the bridge, and exerts a reversed force to consume the energy, so that the bridge will not resonate. Our technology can firstly ensure that the amplitude does not exceed the design limit under heavy winds. It can also reduce the amplitude to extend the life span of the bridge. This technology, together with the other ones, can ensure the life time of 120 years of the bridge.
